Recent News
In November 2025 the Democratic-led Maine Legislative Council blocked a measure by Sen. Trey Stewart to establish Maine-designated Scholarship Granting Organizations for the federal Education Freedom Tax Credit. Maine residents can still claim the federal credit, but only by donating to SGOs in other states. As of the IRS participation list dated June 8, 2026, Maine had not opted into the federal program.
